Posters: Export Poster re-renders the map at up to 4000×4000 (or add &w=/&h= to the address — try Lausanne at 4000×4000, maximum zoom), and Save as GIF downloads it at twice the pane: a real 8000×8000 GIF
Technology: Map tiles are drawn on the fly from raw OSM vectors in your browser; Save as GIF encodes the pane as a real 216-color GIF.
